What is a Preventative Maintenance Inspection (PMI)and does my HGV vehicle need it?

Essentially, the interval between inspections of a HGV depends on a number of factors. These include the age, condition and mileage of the vehicle and trailer.

The DVSA strongly encourages any vehicle that has been out of service for some time should always be inspected before use. In addition, any vehicle and trailer that is more than 12 years old should have no longer than a 6-week gap between inspections. Please call or email G & Ca Lombardo Ltd to get your vehicle scheduled in.

HGV PMI

These inspections report on defects that could affect the safety, legality or reliability of your vehicle before the next scheduled inspection. The inspection covers all the items that make up the statutory annual test, as well as items that should be covered by a driver walk around check. It ensures safe, legal and reliable condition of your vehicle, providing you with a full inspection report.

Here at G & Ca Lombardo Ltd, we appreciate that the haulage business is very busy and inspections are sometimes late or just get missed for a number of reasons. So, we have now put in place our own scheduling where you will receive an email advising you at least 2 weeks in advance your vehicle is due for PMI and then a week in advance to remind you of the booking. Let us take the strain and make the process easier to keep up with your legal requirements, call or email us to get started.

Of course, no operator is compelled to perform their own safety inspections for HGVs, and many choose to have them conducted by independent companies with the relevant expertise. The downside of subcontracting your inspections is that it often means having a vehicle and its driver off the road for a whole day for the purpose of travelling to and from the workshop, and the test itself. We will help you where we can in order to make this an easier process. We also provide other services that include 24 hour breakdown recovery and HGV MOT preparation.
